The Life of Bhagavan
Bhagavan’s story began with Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa Deva. His lineage passed through the Holy Mother, Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Krishnananda, who achieved nirvikalpa samadhi after twenty-five years of austerities in the jungle, then to his guru, Swami Pavitrananda, also a nirvikalpa samadhist. Both Ramakrishna and Swami Krishnananda, as well as Swami Vivekananda, foresaw Bhagavan’s coming.
Bhagavan was born in 1942 in East Bengal. Soon after his birth, his family left their home because of the partition of Bengal in 1947. They settled in Birati, a village near Calcutta, where he lives today. From an early age, Bhagavan showed he had a great heart, great love for humanity and a great zeal for living life to the highest possible degree. Although successful in everything he did, he found, in the material word, it was simply not possible to come close enough to his ideal of Truth. Eventually, He came to the lotus feet of Swami Pavitrananda Maharaj. He renounced all interest in the material world and quickly became Swamiji’s foremost disciple. However, as he, in those days, made a living by working on the railways in Assam, and Swami Pavitrananda’s ashram was in the jungle of West Bengal, he had very little opportunity to be with His beloved guru. However, Bhagavan drew great inspiration from the letters Swamiji wrote to Him, and advanced quickly. Eventually, in 1984, Bhagavan felt the time had come when he had to realise Brahman. He took one week’s leave from his job, and on the third day, went into nirvikalpa samadhi. In 1987, in accordance with Ramakrishna’s prophecy that his spirit would return to the Earth 100 years after his death, Bhagavan entered Mahabhava. Glory dawned; he was a God…
